True Value Lawn Care (725) 353-3493

Las Vegas Lawn Care and Desert Landscaping

Rock conversions, palm and tree trimming, irrigation repair and yard maintenance across the valley. Straight estimates, and we show up when we say we will.

Most yards in this valley are fighting the same three things: heat, hard water and caliche. A lawn that would look after itself in Ohio needs deliberate help here, and a rock yard that was installed without thought about drainage turns into a weed bed within two summers. We work with the desert rather than against it — which usually means less turf, better irrigation, and plants that were bred for this climate instead of shipped in to die in July.

We handle the full range of yard work for homes and small commercial properties: design and planting, ongoing garden care, irrigation and drainage, rock design, palm shaving and clean-ups. If you want to see finished work before you commit, the project gallery shows what the different approaches look like once they have settled in.

What We Do

Everything below is work we do ourselves rather than subcontract. The detail on each one, including how we scope and price it, is on the services page.

Rock Design and Turf Conversion

This is the single most requested job in the valley now, and it is not only about looks. Southern Nevada has been steadily phasing out ornamental grass that nobody walks on — the strips along driveways, the medians, the decorative front lawns. Converting that to rock, decomposed granite and desert planting cuts a water bill substantially and removes a mowing obligation permanently. Done badly it is a gravel parking lot. Done properly there is a weed barrier, correct rock depth, real grading so monsoon water runs somewhere sensible, and enough planting that the yard still reads as a garden.

Tree and Palm Trimming, Including Palm Shaving

Palms in Las Vegas need attention roughly once a year or they become a fire and pest problem, and the dead frond skirt is where rats and scorpions live. Palm shaving — taking the old boot bases back to a clean trunk — is a finish job that makes a mature palm look deliberate instead of neglected. We also thin and raise shade trees, which matters more than people expect in monsoon season: a dense, unthinned canopy catches wind like a sail and is how healthy trees end up on roofs.

Irrigation Repair, Sprinkler Removal and Drainage

Drip line in this climate is consumable. UV degrades the tubing, emitters clog with mineral from hard water, and a single split line behind a shrub can run for weeks before anyone notices it on the bill. We repair and re-lay drip, fix and re-time controllers, cap and remove sprinkler systems that are no longer feeding anything, and correct drainage that is pushing water toward a foundation instead of away from it.

Yard Clean-Ups and Ongoing Maintenance

Some properties need a single hard reset — an overgrown rental between tenants, a yard after a storm, a house going on the market. Others are better on a schedule. We do both, and we will tell you honestly which one your property actually needs rather than selling a contract to someone who needs one visit.

Why Las Vegas Yards Are Their Own Problem

Caliche Is Under Almost Everything

Much of the valley sits on caliche, a cemented calcium-carbonate layer that can be inches to feet thick. It stops roots, it stops water, and it turns a straightforward planting job into a pick-and-bar job. It matters for irrigation too: a trench that hits caliche and stops there will hold water around a root ball like a bucket. Knowing it is there changes how a yard should be planted, and it is one of the first things we check.

Watering Rules Change by Season

Assigned watering days in the valley shift through the year, and running a controller on a summer schedule into the autumn is both wasteful and a common source of citations. Whenever we touch a controller we set it to the current seasonal schedule and show you where to change it, rather than leaving a black box in the garage that nobody understands. Check the current restrictions with the water authority directly — they are updated seasonally and we will not quote a schedule here that may be out of date by the time you read it.

Monsoon Season Undoes Lazy Grading

July through September the valley gets short, violent rain that the ground cannot absorb fast enough. Yards graded without thought put that water against a slab. Rock yards without proper base migrate into the street. This is the failure we get called out to fix most often, and it is almost always cheaper to grade correctly the first time.

Hard Water Is Hard on Everything

Valley water is mineral-heavy. It clogs emitters, crusts soil surfaces and leaves deposits on decorative rock and hardscape. It is a maintenance reality rather than a fixable problem, but system choices can make it much less painful — larger-orifice emitters and accessible filtration being the obvious ones.

Where We Work

We cover Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Summerlin, Spring Valley, Enterprise and Paradise. If you are outside that ring, call and ask rather than assuming — we would rather say no on the phone than waste your afternoon. Questions about scheduling, frequency and what a visit includes are answered on the FAQ page, and there is more about how the company works on the about page.

Two Mistakes That Cost Homeowners Money Here

Rocking Over Live Grass

It is the cheapest-looking quote you will get and it fails reliably. Bermuda in particular will push through fabric and around edges, and once it is under six inches of rock it is far harder to deal with than it was as a lawn. Removing the turf and its root layer first is most of the labour in a conversion, which is exactly why the cheap quote skipped it. If a bid comes in dramatically under the others, this is usually the reason.

Watering Established Desert Plants Like New Ones

Desert species need real water while they establish and much less afterwards. Plenty of yards here are on the same drip schedule they were given the week they were planted, years later. That is wasted water, and for several common desert shrubs it is actively harmful — constant moisture around the crown is a good way to rot a plant that evolved to be dry. Adjusting the schedule as a yard matures is part of what ongoing maintenance is for, and it is covered further in our frequently asked questions.

What an Estimate Covers

We come out, look at the property, and give you a fixed price for defined work. The quote states what is included and what is not, so there is no argument later about whether hauling debris away was part of it. There is no charge for the visit and no deposit to receive a quote. Our terms of service set out how quotes, scheduling and payment work in writing, and what happens to the details you send us is covered in the privacy policy.
